About KUED

KUED is Utah's premiere public broadcasting station broadcasting quality programs 24 hours a day. We offer the full PBS schedule, an instructional television block, and award-winning, locally-produced television programs and documentaries. We are recognized as one of the leading public television stations in the country. KUED became the first station to ever win the Rocky Mountain Emmy Award of Excellence for the Best Overall TV Station, a major recognition for the station's commitment to serving the community through its productions and outreach programs. KUED signed on the air January 9, 1958 and is a 501 © (3) not-for-profit institution licensed to the University of Utah. KUED has two digital channels as well, KUED World and KUED V-me.

Our Values, Vision and Mission

Values Statement

We value honesty, courage, fairness, respect, curiosity, independence, civility and integrity in our programs; in our interaction with viewers, volunteers, co-workers, and funders; and with the community at large. We value an informed public that is enlightened and challenged by a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, issues and cultures.  We value our non-profit role in the community and our unique opportunity to serve and connect viewers through the quality programs we broadcast and the community services we provide.

Vision

KUED helps build a community where learning is revered, diversity is welcomed, intelligence is respected, free expression is safeguarded, curiosity is prized, fairness is expected, citizens are engaged, and children are cherished and nurtured.

Mission Statement

At KUED, we use the power of public television to engage your mind and enrich your life.

We Do This By:

  1. Broadcasting the core PBS schedule; acquiring, producing and broadcasting programs that best serve our viewers using the best technology available.
  2. Broadcasting to the entire state and portions of four surrounding states 24 hours a day.
  3. Providing educational programs and services to public schools and libraries, the University of Utah and other institutions of higher education.
  4. Producing local programs meeting the highest television standards to share Utah’s story and examine critical issues of importance to Utahns.
  5. Providing related activities, resources, and materials that go beyond broadcast to serve our community.
  6. Providing supplemental content and services through the Internet.
  7. Providing responsive customer service to our viewers’ questions and concerns.
  8. Providing viewers, companies and foundations an opportunity to give back to the community through their support of public television.
  9. Maintaining stringent business practices and strong stewardship in administering the station.
