Steven G. and Susan E. Denkers Family Foundation

Although a relatively new foundation, the Stephen G. and Susan E. Denkers Family Foundation has strong Utah roots and a special flair for philanthropy within the state. As its name suggests, the foundation is truly a family endeavor. The founders, their children and grandchildren have been loyal supporters of KUED for many years.

For more than a decade, the Denkers family has supported a variety of KUED projects in a wide range of capacities, through individual gifts of support, foundation grants for local productions, and attendance at KUED events. Most recently, the foundation provided very generous support for KUED’s emotional, historical series Utah World War II Stories. It has also provided funding for John Howe's documentary Desert Wars: Water and the West, which was broadcast on KUED in September 2006.

Since its organization in 2000, the Stephen G. and Susan E. Denkers Family Foundation has contributed nearly $3 million in local charitable support for the arts, education, health, medicine, at-risk populations and, of course, public broadcasting. The foundation’s unique commitment to public broadcasting extends beyond KUED to other public broadcasting organizations within the state. Currently, the foundation provides nearly $500,000 in grants annually to Utah nonprofit institutions.

The Denkers family’s commitment to KUED has also been felt through its longtime involvement with the Willard L. Eccles Charitable Foundation, which has supported such KUED productions as The Great Salt Lake: America’s Legacy of Wetlands, The Journey Home and Transplanting Miracles: The Donor Crisis.

It is because of loyal community support like that of the Denkers family that KUED is able to use the power of public television to engage the minds and enrich the lives of all Utahns.
