S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney Foundation

For more than two decades, the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney Foundation has been one of KUED’s strongest supporters. Over the years, the foundation has partnered with the station to bring programs such as Nightly Business Report, American Experience, the Tony Hillerman American Mystery! specials, Broadway: The American Musical, and many other outstanding PBS specials to the people of Utah 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

During their lifetime, the foundation’s namesakes, Seymour Joseph “Joe” Quinney and Jessie Eccles Quinney, both held education in high esteem. Their legacy continues today through the foundation’s longtime support of KUED and other nonprofit and educational organizations throughout the state of Utah. That commitment to education is a perfect match for KUED’s mission to use the power of public television to engage the mind and enrich the lives of all Utahns.

S.J. Quinney, a Logan native, graduated from Harvard Law School in 1919. He and his wife, Jessie (daughter of David Eccles), who attended Radcliffe College in Boston, returned to Utah, where he was admitted to the bar and began practicing law. S.J. Quinney was a founding partner in the distinguished law firm of Ray, Quinney and Nebeker, where he practiced until his death at age 90. Together, the Quinneys’ enthusiastic, lifelong interest in and support of the arts, education and culture, broadened the force of their impact statewide.

Today, the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney Foundation is one of Utah’s pre-eminent foundations and is one of KUED’s most loyal underwriters. The foundation also provides annual charitable support to education, the arts, the environment, medical research and other causes.
