Just as KUED offers something on its menu for everyone, Desert Edge Brewery, Red Butte Café, Martine Café, and Stella Grill serve high-quality cuisine to please any taste. The four Salt Lake City restaurants comprising The Pub Group of Restaurants underwrite KUED's general program fund.

In business since 1972, Pub Group restaurateur Scott Hale expanded the original concept of a college tavern into unique dining experiences at the Desert Edge Brewery, Red Butte Café, Martine, and Stella Grill. Along the way, the company has enjoyed success and high ratings in the Zagat Survey. Martine appeared in the September 2004 issue of the nationally published Bon Appetit magazine, which features recipes, menus, chefs, wine, drinks, cooking demos and more.

"We're in the business because we love food and we love restaurants," says Hale. He defines the food at his restaurants as non-institutional, contemporary cuisine. "We like to offer our customers a range of dining experiences," he says. "Everything is made from scratch-from our beer, to our pasta, to salad dressings. It's what gives our food a fresh, clean taste." From pub-style staples to innovative entrées, each restaurant serves up distinctive fare.

With Mediterranean-influenced cuisine, Martine offers formal and informal dining experiences. "The menu at Martine is always changing and fresh," says Hale. "It's modern cuisine, but not fussy."

The Pub Group's customer-first philosophy sets it apart from other restaurants, according to Hale. "We want to make people comfortable with unpretentious service and high-quality food at a good price," he says.

Hale supports public television as a way of giving back to his alma mater, the University of Utah, and because of KUED's quality programs. "I do a lot of channel-changing, but I somehow end up tuned to Channel 7 because I know I can always find something interesting to watch," he says.
