Dig a little further and you’ll find that this county is not only Utah’s largest, but, most likely, its most unique, as well. “Free from the distractions of metropolitan and urban life, the relaxing lifestyle in our charming towns and villages offers the perfect vacation, residential, or business environment,” says Director of Economic Development and Visitor Services, Charlie DeLorme.

“We have such incredible resources here – 92 percent of the County’s land is public administered, and only 8 percent is privately owned. When I became the director of economic development for this area, I wanted to tie in a sustainable stewardship to make people aware of the natural beauty that exists here. As a former tour operator, ‘selling’ San Juan County is easy – visitors can’t believe it when I tell them that people around here can be skiing in the morning, and wearing shorts by the afternoon,” says DeLorme.

San Juan County is located in the Four Corners region of the southwest United States -- the heart of the Colorado Plateau with the textbook geology that created the breathtaking canyons and majestic mountains of Canyon Country.

Cultural and natural history experiences abound in Canyon Country. Underwriting KUED’s “Globe Trekker” series seemed like the perfect partnership between San Juan County and KUED. “The demographics of both of our audiences are a good fit,” DeLorme explains, adding that visitors from the Wasatch Front to the San Juan area have tripled in the past two years. “Underwriting for National Public Radio and KUED Public Television is not just the right thing to do – it’s the smart thing to do,” he concludes.
