Join this year’s Strut Your Mutt mascots, Dorothy and Toto along with the Tin Dog, the Cowardly Canine and the Scarecur at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 18th in Sugar House Park for
a special dress rehearsal for this year’s Strut Your Mutt. The theme is The Wizard of Paws and this small group of rescued canines will all be dressed for their parts and headed down the yellow brick road in preparation of the big day. They will be joined by Oz, aka President of No More Homeless Pets in Utah, Gregory Castle who will let them know to tap their paws together three times because there is no place like home –especially for a homeless pet.
The 12th annual Strut Your Mutt is scheduled for Saturday, May 19th at 8:00 AM in Sugar House Park (2100 South 1550 East) and we encourage area residents to grab their ruby sneakers and join the fun. Entry to Strut requires a donation of $25 for singles ($30 day of) and $45 for couples ($55 day of). Kids 14 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.
Strut Your Mutt will be highlighted by a 1.5 mile group dog walk around the park, which in past years has drawn more than 2,500 participants. Other activities include live music, an agility course, vendor booths, photos with your mutt and canine contests like “Best Trick” and “Dog/Owner Look Alike.” New this year is the Kids’ Corner which will include a bounce room, crafts, games, face-painting and tasty kid snacks.
All proceeds from the event go to No More Homeless Pets in Utah, a non-profit organization working to end the euthanasia of homeless dogs and cats statewide. PETCO is presenting sponsor for the event and more information can be found at www.strutyourmutt.org.
Featured again this year is The Backyard, an exclusive area within the main event reserved for those participants who raise at least $350 in donations. The area will feature a catered meal, door prizes, games for people and dogs to play together, seated massage for humans, and much more. Strut Your Mutt is an important fundraising component of No More Homeless Pets in Utah which has a goal of ending the euthanasia homeless dogs and cats statewide and providing humane alternatives for feral cats.. Since the program began in 2000, No More Homeless Pets in Utah has seen a nearly 50% decrease in euthanasia, statewide.
