Beginning in 1998, each year the University of Utah Veterans Day Committee selects 11 honorees to receive special recognition for extraordinary military service at a November commemoration ceremony, which is one of the biggest college campus events of its kind in the United States. The day of the commemoration offers a full schedule of activities open to the public including a medallion ceremony, a morning panel discussion with military and civilian experts, a 1940's USO-style big band performance, and a Saturday evening concert by the Utah National Guard 23rd Army Band. As the state’s flagship institution, the University of Utah is a befitting place to honor the Utah men and women who so valiantly served our country in armed conflict.
