In Mexico and many other Latin American countries, April 30th is set apart as a special holiday to honor children. Beginning in 1996, Pat Mora, the famous Latina children’s author, introduced Children’s Day into the U.S. and incorporated the idea of Book Day to emphasize the importance of literacy and the love of reading in children.
