Pat Spurgeon is a professional musician whose dreams of being in a successful working rock 'n' roll band have come true. But just as his band, Rogue Wave, starts to take off, one of his kidneys starts to fail. Pat's choice to keep touring and working toward the band's goals is put to the test; the absolute need to find a potential organ donor, perform dialysis daily and to focus on his health become top priority while being on the road. Join KUED, the SLC Film Center, Intermountain Donor Services, and Shriners Hospital for Children for a premiere screening and panel discussion of D Tour.

This Diverse Voices program was screened on Tuesday October 27th, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at Shriners Hospital for Children.

Screening panelists:

• Eddie Bridges, kidney recipient
  Eddie Bridges became sick and was diagnosed with kidney disease when he was 13 years old.  At the time, he was told he would need a kidney transplant someday, but he would not be put on the waiting list until his kidneys became worse.  His kidneys lasted until he was almost 21 years old, but then they began to fail rapidly. He was put on the waiting list for a transplant and started dialysis.  He was able to receive a transplant about four months later; one week before his 21st birthday.  That was a little over 20 years ago. more »

• Pam Grant, social worker
  Pam has worked in the pediatric renal dialysis and transplant program at the University of Utah for the past 28 years. She obtained her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in 1974. more »
• Alex McDonald, Executive Director Intermountain Donor Services
  Alex McDonald is the director of public education/public relations for Intermountain Donor Services.  He has been with Intermountain Donor Services for 15 years and has seen a lot of change in the area of public education around organ, eye, tissue and blood donation.  He has BA's in political science, speech communications from the University of Minnesota and a graduate degree in public administration from the University of Utah.  Alex also teaches an introduction to political science course at Salt Lake Community College.   more »
• Erika Ward, good samaritan, living kidney donor
  Erika Ward born in Brasil and was adopted when at two month's. Erika grew up in Salt Lake moved around and found Austin, Texas is her favorite place. She has five children,  four girl's and one boy ranging from age 15 to 30. Organ donation was something she thought about for three or so years. Then one day she knew it was time to go forward and I could feel in my heart and mind it was the right thing to do. So she went from there it has been 13 month's since she donated to Fredy. Fredy and Erika talk over the internet and we have seen each other a few time's since the transplant. For Erika it was a great experience and her life was touched by a man who needed life given to him so he could be with his family and live it to the fullest. more »
