KUED senior producer John Howe and his documentary Horses of the West have been presented the Cine Golden Eagle Award for excellence in non-fiction documentary production for 2011.
Professionally judged by national television programmers and producers, the Golden Eagle is awarded to programs that represent "...the industry's highest standards of production quality and integrity."
"A multiple Golden Eagle recipient during his career, John's 2011 selection places him, KUED and Horses of the West in the very good company of National Geographic Films, PBS NewsHour, HBO Documentaries and WGBH," says KUED Director of Production Ken Verdoia. "It's truly an example of pursuing our commitment to be Utah's Best Storyteller."
Horses of the West has been selected by PBS for presentation nationwide in March, 2012. Most recently, PBS broadcast KUED's Grand Canyon Serenade and Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring David Archuletta and Michael York, which were also John Howe projects.
The CINE Golden Eagle Award has been recognized as a mark of excellence throughout the film and television industry for over 50 years. Since its founding in 1957, CINE has been instrumental in promoting the careers of thousands of filmmakers through juried competitions, educational programs, and networking opportunities. As the industry has evolved, CINE has adapted its programs and competitions to assure that the CINE Golden Eagle continues to provide prestigious peer recognition to established and emerging filmmakers.
