Utah Family Profiled in "Anyone and Everyone"

Documentary Tells the Stories of Families with a Gay Child

Anyone and Everyone tells the stories of families from Utah to North Carolina and Wyoming to New York, all connected by a common thread - a gay child. This poignant and often heartbreaking documentary by first-time filmmaker Susan Polis Schutz (also the parent of a gay son) reveals a family's struggle and desire to accept a child's homosexuality.

Airing on KUED-Channel 7 Monday, June 23, at 8 p.m., the film features parents from a wide range of religions, nationalities and political leanings, all of whom discuss their initial reactions to their child's coming-out. In ANYONE AND EVERYONE, families of various religions, nationalities and political leanings eloquently recall their initial reactions to their gay child's coming-out and their sometimes difficult journeys to acceptance.

While some showed unconditional support; others struggled with their child's sexual orientation, either fearing alienation from their extended family, their church or their community. Some simply did not understand the universal nature of homosexuality, and that it can affect anyone and everyone.

Whether Japanese, Cherokee, Mormon, Catholic or Hindu, these families all share a deep love for their children, along with a struggle for acceptance, both in their own home and within society as a whole. Families of various religions (including the Mormon faith), nationalities and political leanings eloquently recall their initial reactions to their gay child's coming-out and their sometimes difficult journeys to acceptance. The program profiles a descendent of the original Mormon prophets whose parents have reevaluated their religious beliefs and faced estrangement from some family members as a result.

Directly following "Anyone and Everyone," stay tuned for "OUTSIDE," a local documentary which follows four gay homeless youth as they face the challenging realities of daily homeless life on the street in Utah.
