Mark Twain Tonight!

"Ninety of the best minutes of entertainment television ever ..."     - Chicago Tribune

First broadcast live on March 6, 1967, the momentous Mark Twain Tonight! is back, as actor Hal Holbrook's classic performance captures the flamboyant humor and irreverence of Mark Twain.

On that evening back in 1967, 30 million viewers tuned-in to CBS and the 90-minute tour de force was acclaimed as one of the high points of television history. Most startling today is the freshness of Twain's stinging commentary on politics, the art of lying, religion, patriotism, slavery and Man's notion that he is the Creator's pet. Holbrook seems to improvise his way through the gold mine of Twain's writing, stitching it together from many sources, allowing us to see into the heart and soul of the great humorist at age 70.

Now, a new generation of viewers can experience one of the greatest TV specials of all time with this digitally remastered program, airing Wednesday, December 17, at 9 p.m. on KUED-Channel 7.
