"Your brain is the most complex, mind-blowing organ in the universe." -- Dr. Daniel Amen
Facts about the brain will be "front and center" this month, as KUED-Channel 7 brings viewers six not-to-miss brain-related programs. On Saturday, August 1, at 8:30 a.m., KUED presents "Magnificent Mind at Any Age," featuring the findings of Dr. Daniel Amen. In this powerful follow-up to his highly successful special "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Amen explores the many natural ways that we can not only keep our brains healthy as we age, but also improve and enhance our brain power, allowing us to be more effective, successful and happier in our personal and professional lives. "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life" is a breakthrough program for conquering anxiety, depression, obsessiveness, anger and impulsiveness and airs that same day at 2 p.m., followed by "Brain Fitness" at 5:30 p.m.
Developed by Dr. Michael Merzenich of the University of California San Francisco and more than 50 neuroscientists around the world, "Brain Fitness" discusses Dr. Merzenich's efforts to design the scientifically based set of brain exercises demonstrated in the program.
On Sunday, August 2, at 11 p.m. and again Monday, August 3, at 7 p.m., the topic moves to New Science of Learning: Brain Fitness for Kids, exploring the exciting promise of brain plasticity and how parents can use this to optimize learning and dramatically, positively and permanently impact the lives of children of all abilities. Through interviews with neuroscientists, psychologists, educators, parents and the children themselves, it tells the groundbreaking and moving story of previously unthinkable successes in learning and life.
This program leads in to "The Brain in Love," beginning at 8 p.m. Award-winning psychiatrist, brain-imaging researcher, and multiple bestselling author Dr. Amen offers a fresh and compelling twist on brain health: how to use your brain to bring and keep more love into your life. Research clearly tells us that being in a healthy, loving, affectionate relationship helps you be happier, live longer and even have a better memory. One of the most fascinating things Dr. Amen has learned from looking at more than 50,000 brain scans is that when we improve how your brain functions, even if it is troubled, you become more thoughtful, more loving and more effective in all of your relationships. (Program repeats Saturday, August 8, at 5 p.m.)
The simple way to defeat depression, overcome anxiety and sharpen one's mind is addressed in "The UltraMind Solution: Defeat Depression, Overcome Anxiety and Sharpen Your Mind -- with Mark Hyman, M.D.," airing Saturday, August 8, at 9 a.m. The program shows how, by healing our bodies, we will heal our brains automatically.
