KUED-TV in Salt Lake City was honored as the first recipient of the Overall Station Excellence Award from the Rocky Mountain Regional Emmy Awards. This award considers a station's quality, service, diversity and commitment over the course of an entire year. More than 50 stations were eligible in the Rocky Mountain region. KUED General Manager Larry S. Smith accepted the special Emmy for KUED in ceremonies in Phoenix, Arizona Saturday night.
"This is a unique award honoring the "totality" of a station's service and production," said Smith. "This is a wonderful recognition of 100 plus people pulling together each day to build an important service to the public. Congratulations to every staff member because they each share the award."
The award recognized KUED documentaries such as Stegner, Alta, Outside, and the five-part We Shall Remain series; KUED public affairs programs such as Utah NOW and special election year coverage of children's issues, Free Speech Messages and the state's first full-length Spanish language political debate; and KUED's collaborative efforts to benefit education through the We Shall Remain project.
In addition, the following KUED programs received Emmy Awards for being judged best in their class in the region: Wallace Stegner, Outside, Utah Now: Crandall Canyon special; Utah Now: Body Worlds and Utah Now: What is Love?
At the awards ceremonies KUED Senior Producer John Howe was inducted into the Silver Circle, which recognizes individuals with 25 years or more of experience in our region for their significant contributions to the region and the broadcast industry.
