KUED Encores Historically Ground-breaking Documentary, "Eyes on the Prize"

Release Images:

Since its premiere in 1987, Eyes on the Prize has been recognized as a television landmark, winning six Emmy Awards and an Academy Awards Nomination. The powerful documentary series chronicling the major events of the American Civil Rights Movement airs Thursdays, beginning April 1 at 11:00 p.m. on KUED-Channel 7.

Through interviews and historical footage, the documentary follows the time-line from 1954 to 1985, examining the causes and lasting legacy of the American Civil Rights Movement. "Stirring, informative, thoroughly researched... eloquently narrated... anyone who tunes in will be riveted," wrote a reporter from the New York Daily News.

From the Montgomery bus boycott in 1954 to the Voting Rights Act of 1965; from student protests at universities to "Black Power" in the streets; from early acts of individual courage to the flowering of a mass movement as the nation had never seen, the movement reformed politics and reshaped social norms.

Eyes on the Prize was created by Henry Hampton (1940-1998) and produced by his company Blackside. Hampton's company completed 60 major films and media projects that amplified the voices of the disenfranchised minority. His enduring legacy continues to influence the field of social reformation in the 21st century.
