KUED Airs Heartwarming Documentary on Boy Scouts from Harlem

Release Images:

KUED presents a heartwarming story of four Scouts and their wise scoutmaster on a transformative adventure as they head from the streets of Harlem into the deep woods of Camp Keowa in upstate New York. Boy Scouts of Harlem: 759 premieres Wednesday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. on KUED.

The film chronicles the compelling journey of Keith Dozier, the troop's newest Scout, as he spends his first week at camp facing the challenges of being a scout and camping in the woods. The film follows Dozier and the others through their ups and downs, through their fears and accomplishments and through changes that will affect the rest of their lives.

The small scout group boldly faces the dock test at the lake, the daunting climbing tower, the raucous dining hall and the seductive Siberian sirens of the kitchen, the dark nights, and the creatures of the forest. With help from his fellow Scouts -- KC, Devon and Manny -- and Scoutmaster Sowah, Keith makes his way through each new challenge to earn his place as a Scout.

Unique in its angle on two contrasting American icons, Harlem and the Boy Scouts of America, the unusual pairing was an instant draw for filmmakers Justin Szlasa and Jake Boritt. "Hopefully it will change people's minds about both of the words in the title of our film: both about Harlem and about Scouts," Szlasa said.
