The world's attention has been focused over the past several days on the rescue of the miners from the mine near Copiapo, Chile.

For over a month, NOVA has had a crew on the ground in Chile following the events at the mine, where a collapse on August 5 left 33 miners trapped nearly a half mile below the surface. When rescue operations began to successfully bring miners to the surface, NOVA crews captured the amazing end to this saga.

NOVA "Emergency Mine Rescue" airs Tuesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. on KUED. The special film follows the plight of the 33 men trapped underground and investigates the many challenges faced by the miners and by those working tirelessly around the clock in a desperate bid to bring them safely to the surface.

A NOVA film crew has been on-site at the San José mine in Chile since September 5, just weeks after the collapse and the discovery that nearly three dozen missing miners were still alive. NOVA's crew has gained special access and procured interviews that will give viewers a more detailed account and the scientific perspective inherent in these unfolding events.

NOVA interviews engineers, NASA experts, medical personnel, key figures from the companies providing drills and crucial rescue equipment, and others. Actual footage from the scene and special animation will be used to demonstrate the extraordinary feats of engineering, along with the biological and geological factors involved in the rescue. The film will also examine the psychological and physiological impact of this kind of prolonged ordeal on the miners and those involved in the rescue efforts.
