Maria O’Mara directs the business aspects of both PBS Utah and NPR affiliate KUER. She returned to public broadcasting in 2017 as the general manager of KUER. Her journalism career began as an intern and then reporter at PBS Utah and KUER almost 30 years ago, covering the Utah legislature, welfare reform, business and the environment. Since then she has supervised a variety of teams who produce news and information at the Salt Lake Observer, Deseret News, and KSL-TV.
She left the world of journalism for public relations in 2011, managing external communications at Rocky Mountain Power, before returning to the University of Utah as director of communication. Having grown up in rural Utah, she is deeply appreciative of and committed to the statewide public service mission of PBS Utah and KUER.
