It is designed to inform viewers about the programming currently available on WETA’s four digital channels. The piece will entice people to sample programming on The WETA Channel, WETA HD, WETA Create and WETA Kids. The insert also features information on how to prepare for the February 17 deadline to transition to all-digital broadcasting.

The FCC announced that it is making funding available to "grass roots and community-based organizations to assist consumers, particularly those consumers that are home-bound or that have limited mobility, with the procurement and installation of DTV converter boxes and related equipment."

According to the guidelines (attached), the FCC is seeking assistance to help educate consumers, assist with converter box procurement and installation, establish and staff help centers, and conduct post-deadline assistance.

This sounds like an incredible opportunity for public television stations to get a boost to your consumer ed campaigns in the final months and to think more about post-transition services.

The deadline to apply for the funds is October 21
