Missy's Bubble Painting

Email share

Hello there! My name is Missy. I’m a guest blogger here at PBS KIDS Utah. I’m also an artist. I love to experiment with new art supplies and new techniques. I am going to teach you a new one I just learned.

Supplies

  • White paper
  • Water-based paint (tempera paint, food coloring, liquid watercolor all work)
  • A straw
  • Cups ¼ full of water
  • Liquid dish soap

Instructions

  1. Drop some paint into each of your cups (more paint will yield brighter colors).
  2. Add a drop of dish soap to each cup.
  3. Take your straw, stick it in your first cup and blow softly until bubbles rise above the rim of the cup.
  4. Place your paper on top of the cup and quickly remove it. This will make an impression of the bubbles.
  5. Make as many impressions with this color as you like.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 with your other colors.
  7. When you are done, let the paint dry.

Wrap Up

Now you have a beautiful bubble painting! You can hang it on the fridge as-is. Or you can cut a shape out of it, use it as wrapping paper or use it as the background for a drawing. Be creative and have fun!
