Missy's Paper Mache Eggs

• Small balloons
• Newspaper (or other thin paper) torn into small pieces
• White flour
• Scissors
• Paper towel/toilet paper rolls
• Water
• Cinnamon
• Vaseline (or other petroleum jelly)
• Spoon
• Bowl
• Craft paint
• Paint brushes
• Washi tape
• A fan

1. In your bowl, mix water and flour to the consistency of thick glue. Use your spoon to stir in all the lumps. Sprinkle a tiny bit of cinnamon to make it smell nice. This is your paper mache paste.
2. Blow up a balloon and tie it off.
3. Use a small amount of Vaseline to grease up the balloon (this makes it so the paper mache will come off once it is dry).
4. Use your scissors to cut a 1” piece of paper towel roll. This will be your stand while the paper mache is drying.
5. Take a piece of torn paper and dip it into the paper mache paste. Make sure the front and back are covered but not dripping.
6. Place the piece on the balloon, starting near the tie.
7. Take another piece of torn paper, dip it in the paste and place it on the balloon overlapping the first piece.
8. Continue this over and over until the balloon is covered with overlapping pieces of torn paper. Leave a small area uncovered where the balloon tie pokes out.
9. Put the paper mache balloon on the stand you made and place it in front of a fan to dry.
10. Cover as many balloons as you like. Let them dry completely.
11. Now add a second layer of torn papers dipped in the paper mache paste to each balloon. Let them dry completely.
12. When they dry, the paper mache becomes hard.
13. Hold each balloon by the tie and make a tiny snip in the balloon with your scissors. Keep holding the tie while the air comes out of the balloon and it pulls away from the paper mache.
14. Remove the deflated balloon and throw it away.
15. Cover the hole with washi tape.
16. Now use your craft paints and paint brush to paint your paper mache eggs however you like!

These eggs will be a fun addition to Easter baskets or decorations for your house. You can make striped eggs, polka dot eggs, zig-zag eggs, or paint images. Be creative and have fun!
