Media Literacy

Kids watching too much TV? Learn ways to make TV part of your life, not rule your life. This workshop offers tips and tools for parents and caregivers with fun ideas based on your favorite PBS Kids program.

Television is a powerful tool. The average child in the United States watches 4 hours of TV a day. The purpose of this workshop is to promote media literacy among parents, teachers and care-providers throughout the state of Utah. This workshop is a critical piece of the Ready to Learn program!

Child Development

Your baby's growing up! You see them getting bigger on the outside. Ever wonder what's happening on the inside? Come and explore as KUED opens our minds to some of the important steps in child development. Learn how to help your child become "Ready to Learn".

Parenting Counts

A parent is a child’s first teacher. In this workshop, participants discuss what it means to be a “good parent.” The workshop equips parents with ideas and tools necessary to handle the every day stresses of life. Join KUED for some fun tips and ideas to cope with those “little challenges.”

Germs, Germs, Germs

Germs are everywhere, especially in the winter months. Come and join us for some fun as we present ways parents can help kids understand about germs and those icky little flu bugs. 

Families

Purpose: To explore the diversity that exists in individual family units. Also, to encourage family time and help parents have fun with their children by playing games and being silly.

Poster Descriptions: Every family is different! What is your family like? Join KUED as we explore and celebrate the diversity of individual families. What makes your family special? We will have TV programs, great stories and treats. See you there!

Respecting Cultures

People everywhere do things different but the same everyday. Learn how to help you child appreciate our "similarities" and celebrate the many different cultures of the world.

We will take you on a journey around the nation and around the world as we say "Hello" and "Hola" to our friends around the world through books and story telling we illustrate how to include diversity into your everyday conversations.

Coping with Feelings

Purpose: To talk with children about the emotions they experience on a daily basis and to come up with ways of positively coping with these emotions. Topics focused on are: behavioral skills, critical thinking

Poster Descriptions: Do your kids ever act up or act out? This workshop is about “What to Do with the Mad You Feel.” It is about teaching and talking with children about their feelings. It is about effectively coping with our human emotions.

Safety First!

Purpose: To encourage children to be safe at home, at school and …anywhere else.

Poster Descriptions: You remember the phrase "don’t talk to strangers." Do your kids? Learn how to help your children prepare for safety first! In this workshop, parents will learn about effective strategies for keeping their children safe at home and at school.
