Media LiteracyKids watching too much TV? Learn ways to make TV part of your life, not rule your life. This workshop offers tips and tools for parents and caregivers with fun ideas based on your favorite PBS Kids program. Television is a powerful tool. The average child in the United States watches 4 hours of TV a day. The purpose of this workshop is to promote media literacy among parents, teachers and care-providers throughout the state of Utah. Parenting CountsA parent is a child’s first teacher. In this workshop, participants discuss what it means to be a “good parent.” The workshop equips parents with ideas and tools necessary to handle the every day stresses of life. FamiliesPurpose: To explore the diversity that exists in individual family units. Also, to encourage family time and help parents have fun with their children by playing games and being silly. Respecting CulturesPeople everywhere do things different but the same everyday. Learn how to help you child appreciate our "similarities" and celebrate the many different cultures of the world. We will take you on a journey around the nation and around the world as we say "Hello" and "Hola" to our friends around the world through books and story telling we illustrate how to include diversity into your everyday conversations. Coping with FeelingsPurpose: To talk with children about the emotions they experience on a daily basis and to come up with ways of positively coping with these emotions. Topics focused on are: behavioral skills, critical thinking Poster Descriptions: Do your kids ever act up or act out? This workshop is about “What to Do with the Mad You Feel.” It is about teaching and talking with children about their feelings. It is about effectively coping with our human emotions.
