Free Guide for Parents!
In its continuing
effort to serve as an Education Connection to parental involvement
in children's education, KUED has updated its popular booklet for
parents, Education: Parental Guidance Required. The 21-page
guide, available in English and Spanish, tells why parental involvement
in education increases children's chances for success in school. Studies
show that children whose parents are involved in education are more
motivated to do well in school.
With tips explaining how education can be an important part of home life, the book shows how parents can help make connections between school skills and real-life situations. For example, parents can design at-home kits (such as reading, writing, cooking, and inventing kits) to make learning opportunities easily accessible. The guide encourages parents to use kits for study time when homework is done and children say, "There's nothing to do!"
Education: Parental Guidance Required offers additional tips for parents on how to:
- prepare a child to go to school
- spot a great classroom for a child
- be a partner with a child's teacher
- put an end to the homework struggle
- understand standardized tests
- find helpful resources for additional assistance
Now that educators have a Utah state-endorsed Student Education Plan (SEP) and a Student Education Occupation Plan (SEOP), the Education Connection booklet clearly defines the SEP/SEOP process and includes worksheets for parents, teachers, and students to use in their planning.
