The following is a list of professional licenses for professionals working in mental health. Details of each license can be obtained through the Department of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL), State of Utah.

Master's Level Intern

Associate Professional Counselor (APC)
Certified Social Worker (CSW)

Master's Level Professional

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

The master's level mental health professional has obtained a master's degree in a mental health related field. The State of Utah requires master's level professionals to meet licensure requirements prior to obtaining full licensure. Master's level professionals provide therapy for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness.

Doctoral Level Professional (PhD)

Doctoral level professionals include psychologists and doctors of counseling, human services, and social work. Psychologists provide psychological testing. The doctoral degree involves the highest level of education within the mental health field and includes professionals highly specialized in their field of education and service.

Medical Doctor (MD) and Prescribers

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
Psychiatrist (MD)
Medical Doctor (MD)

Psychiatrists are medical doctors with specialized education and training in mental health. Advanced practice registered nurses can prescribe medications and provide therapy for individuals with mental illness.
