KUED Airs Award Winning British Series, Land Girls

This British period drama runs Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. on KUED beginning June 14.

Set in the English countryside during World War II, Land Girls follows the lives, loves, highs and lows of four young English women who left their homes and families to join the Women’s Land Army. A civilian organization, the WLA sent city women to rural farms to replace the male workers who had been called up to the military.

The four girls, who begin their new working lives at the opulent Hoxley Estate on Pasture Farm, have joined the WLA for very different reasons.

Nancy is forced into joining the WLA when female conscription begins. Joyce wants to serve her country just like her husband is doing. Annie signs herself and her younger sister, Bea, up so they can escape their abusive father. Their motives may be different, but they all share the same goal-- to help serve their country and win the war.

As the girls adapt to their new surroundings and begin the hard work, their lives begin to change.

The series was created by Roland Moore in 2009 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. It won the Best Daytime program in Britain's 2010 Broadcast Awards. Later that year it was named Best Drama at the Royal Television Society Awards.
