KUED Announces 15th Annual Reading Marathon

A Partnership with Utah's Public Libraries - November 5th - 24th, 2007

Join the fun and get reading! Kids of all ages will have a wonderful time reading with this year's character-Curious George®-the popular storybook characters by Margret and H. A. Rey, and star of a the number-one-rated PBS-animated program in 2007.

KUED's 15th Annual READING MARATHON takes place November 5-24, 2007 and encourages children and their families to spend quality time reading together. This celebration of National Children's Book Week is in partnership with Utah's public libraries and community agencies. Last year, more than 3,000 children participated in the Reading Marathon and more than 1,100 children and their parents celebrated with Buster® at the State Fair Grounds in January.

It's simple to participate in KUED's READING MARATHON - kids may pick up a reading log at their public library or online at http://www.kued.org/ and get reading! Children of pre-school age through fifth grade have different reading goals to meet; details are outlined on the reading log.

Participants may read alone, read to someone else, or be read to by another person.

"KUED's Reading Marathon is a great way for families to read together," says Jacqui Voland , community outreach manager for KUED. "As part of our dedication to Utah's children, the read-a-thon is a fun way to promote literacy."

During the week of Nov 1 - 6, libraries and partners statewide will host kick-off parties to create buzz and party with our cuddly friend, George. For a list of locations, visit the KUED website http://www.kued.org/.

Once children complete the marathon, they'll become KUED "Super Readers" and receive a certificate of completion, as well as an invitation to a special Super Reader Party in January 2008 with George® and the Man in the Yellow Hat®. Hands-on learning activities, entertainment and free books are part of the reward for being a KUED "Super Reader."
