Scott and Bailey, a new six-part British crime drama that follows the professional and personal lives of two women detectives, comes to KUED Thursday nights at 9:00 p.m. beginning March 21.
Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp star as Detective Rachel Bailey and Detective Janet Scott, members of Syndicate 9, a division of Manchester Metropolitan Police that investigates murders.
Subtle, reliable and diplomatic with a wry sense of humor, Janet makes the perfect foil for Rachel. Janet has two daughters and a marriage that feels like nothing more than a convenient arrangement for both her and her husband, Adrian (Tony Pitts).
But behind the straight facade is a woman capable of infidelity and one whose traumatic childhood experiences have driven her to join the police force. Rachel is energetic, impulsive and bold. Her intuition makes her a great cop, although her boss, DCI Gill Murray, unfairly views her as a liability. Often burning the candle at both ends, Rachel's spur of the moment ideas and hidden vulnerability frequently lead to disaster in her private life.
Both competent and ambitious, neither woman suffers fools. And despite their obvious differences, they draw on each other's strengths every day to deal with extreme and horrific crimes and murders committed over love, hatred and revenge.
Scott and Bailey also stars Rupert Graves as Rachel's partner Nick, Sally Lindsay as Rachel's sister Alison and Kevin Doyle as Janet's childhood friend Geoff Hastings.
