Kick-off event for Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Competition

KUED 7 & COUNTRY INNS & SUITES BY CARLSON, Bountiful WILL HOST KICK OFF EVENT FOR 14TH ANNUAL READING RAINBOW YOUNG WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS CONTEST

KUED and Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, Bountiful will host a kick-off event, Saturday, February 23, for the KUED 14th Annual Young Writers and Illustrators nationwide competition, beginning February 29. The kick-off event is scheduled from 1—4 p.m. at Country Inns and Suites in Bountiful, 999 North 500 West. Children will participate in hands-on story time with Causeway the Buffalo from the Davis Reads program as well as activities with local author and illustrator team Caralyn and Mark Buehner, designed to teach children about the elements of a good story. Children will also have an opportunity to map out their own story for submission into the local contest.

Children from the community are invited to participate in kick-off event activities. Representatives from the hotel and KUED-TV, the local PBS station that coordinates the Young Writers & Illustrators contest for the state of Utah, will be on hand with local book authors and community partner, Deseret Book with additional details about the competition.

Now in its 14th year, the Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest encourages kids from kindergarten through third grade to write and illustrate an original story and submit it to the nationwide contest. The contest is meant to encourage children's writing and story-telling skills. Winning story entries are eligible for both local and national awards. Country Inns & Suites by Carlson recently signed on as a presenting sponsor of the Emmy-Award winning Reading Rainbow program, which airs on KUED 7 at 9:00 a.m. weekdays.
