KUED KICKS OFF ANNUAL  PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST

Kick-Off Event at Thanksgiving Point

KUED kicks off its annual PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest that encourages children grade K-6 to celebrte the power storytelling by creating their own original stories and illustrations. All entries are due to KUED by April 25.

Winners in each grade level will be announced at a celebration event at Thanksgiving Point on May 7 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Activity Barn. All entrants will receive a certificate of achievement for entering the competition. Utah winners will go on to compete in the national PBS KIDS GO! Writers contest.

"We know from research that there is an important connection between writing and the development of early literacy skills, critical cornerstones for school readiness and achievement," said Lesli Rotenberg, PBS Senior Vice President, Children’s Media. "PBS KIDS GO! uses the power of media to open up the worlds of letters and words for all children, encouraging them to explore ways to communicate more effectively."

Applications and additional information are available at kued.or/kids beginning Feb 21. The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest web site at pbskids.org/read has examples of last year's national winning entries.

For additional information about the competition contact Jacqui Voland at jvoland@kued.org or stay tuned to the KUED Kids FB for additional updates about events and services.
