Cats are one of the most diverse and studied mammals in the world, yet only now is their real identity being understood. Evolutionary tricks and adaptations have contributed to their successful survival. In fact, all 37 species of the cat family behave similarly in the way they hunt, utilizing flexible spines and sharp teeth to catch their prey. No surprise, then, that they are one of the greatest predators since the dinosaurs and are still evolving.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on October 23, Bill Murray: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor features a star-studded cast of Murray’s friends and colleagues including top entertainers and comedians such as Dan Aykroyd, Aziz Ansari, Roy Blount, Jr., Bill Hader, Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, Brian Doyle Murray, Paul Shaffer, and Sigourney Weaver. The evening pays tribute to the humor and accomplishments of the comedy icon.

PBS and WNET announced that the October 21 premiere of Hamilton’s America, , the kick-off program for the 2016 PBS Arts Fall Festival, was seen by more than 3.6 million television viewers between its premiere on Friday, October 21 and Sunday, October 23 (Nielsen Weekend Fast National, Live+SD data). Friday night’s viewership (2.4 million average audience, 1.6 household rating) was 136 percent above the PBS program average for 9:00 p.m. Friday premieres over the past year (Nielsen Fast National Live +Same Day).

KUED Kids is teaming up with community partners around the valley to present the 24th Annual Reading Marathon during the month of November.  The annual event challenges children, preschool through sixth grade, to read 20 minutes each day during the month. Parents and teachers can print off the reading log at kued.org/reading to keep track of minutes read each day from Nov 1-30.

Largely responsible for the explosion of bold American television in the 1970s, writer/producer Norman Lear’s name is synonymous with the sitcom. The first documentary about the 94-year-old television legend, American Masters – Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You, premieres on KUED Tuesday, October 25th at 8:00 p.m.
