2012 Golden Apple Honoree: Sue Jones

Because Sue genuinely cares for her students at Oak Canyon Junior High, they respond in amazing ways, stretching and trying things they would otherwise shun.  When problems arise, she has bench talks, where she sits with a student to privately ask, “What can I do to help? Do you think you can do this yourself? Let’s set a date for improvement."  Giving a student the chance to examine the problem, take responsibility and help craft a solution results in a feeling of accomplishment that lasts long after they leave her classroom.
