Ulises works full-time and has community and family commitments, but he still finds time to make a difference at Midvale Middle School. In addition to serving as the PTA president, Ulises, who is an immigrant from Argentina, is the Emerging Minority Leader Representative for the Canyons school district. When he first joined the PTA, he was the only man in the organization. Ulises is convinced that fathers are an untapped resource for schools. He has had special success recruiting other fathers into the school’s PTA. He cites studies showing that kids do better academically when their fathers are involved.
