Pineapple Quilt

pineapple quilt image

This Pineapple Quilt made by Ofa Alisi Fiefia is an excellent example of Tongan monomono piecework. The fruit design reflects her island home and the repetitive geometric pattern is similar to those found on Tongan bark (tapa) cloth. Using a machine to piece and leaving the top unquilted makes monomono's quick to produce. They are often given for gifts at weddings, funerals and other community functions.
