Traditional Hula Dance

Ancient Hawaiian hula differs from the popular hula familiar to most non-Hawaiians. In Salt Lake City, master Kuma hula, Keola Ohumukini (seated in rear) teaches select students the finer points of this rare art form. Neolani Parsons participated in a Utah Arts Council Apprenticeship grant, which allowed her to spend a year studying the history, philosophy, special hand and foot movements and vocalizations of this ancient tradition.
