ElkWhile the archaeological wonders of Range Creek have received virtually all of the media consideration, the group most responsible for acquiring and preserving the land has been largely ignored. Sportsmen. . .primarily hunters and anglers. . .effectively lobbied Congress to put up money to acquire the Wilcox ranch and preserve it as a blue ribbon hunting ground. In the eyes of the law, the needs of wildlife come first.
