Norman and Barbara TannerNorman and Barbara Tanner

Norman and Barbara Tanner are passionate about their community. They both came through the Great Depression, and have always appreciated their good fortune and wanted to share it to help others.

Barbara has been particularly involved with KUED. She has donated her time, talents and resources to help the station reach its programming goals. Barbara served on the KUED Friends Board from 1990 to 1996. She was the founding chair of the Broadcasters Club and was co-chair of KUED's recently-completed $5 million Making the Difference Endowment Campaign.

A long-time community activist, Barbara was one of the original founders of Utah Youth Village. She has also been active with the Utah Symphony, serving on its board for 20 years. She also helped orchestrate the expansion of the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition. She served on the University of Utah Alumni Association and is currently on the National Advisory Board of Weber State University.

Norm has served at the President of the Utah Arthritis Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Salt Lake Rotary Club, and the Utah Manufacturer's Association. In addition, he has been a board member of the Utah Jr. Chamber of Commerce and on the board of the National Association of Manufactures.

Norman and Barbara are highly regarded in the community, not just for their generosity and service, but because they live their lives with love and devotion to each other, their four children–Clark, Susan, Deon and Deb–and their five grandchildren. The respect is mutual as evidenced by a recent birthday gift by their daughters establishing the Barbara Tanner Scholarship Fund through the Lowell Bennion Community Service Center. Their charm, vitality and unceasing dedication to creating a better world have touched countless lives in Utah.

The Lawrence T. Dee - Janet T. Dee Foundation

Established in 1971, the Lawrence T. Dee - Janet T. Dee Foundation is dedicated to promoting charitable, educational, scientific, artistic and care-giving purposes primarily in the Ogden and Salt Lake communities. Founded by Lawrence Dee, an Ogden entrepreneur, philanthropist and civic leader, the foundation has made significant donations to the University Hospital in Salt Lake City and the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, in addition to underwriting for KUED-7. Along with his wife Janet, Lawrence quietly made a difference in the lives of family, in the lives of friends and, mostly, in the lives of those in the community who may not have known either of them.
