The State
of Utah is the most obvious and persistent opponent of the
radioactive waste storage proposal. Their information through
the Department of Environmental Quality is quite limited, but
outlines the state's primary concerns.
For additional information you can access the interview transcripts
with Gov. Michael
Leavitt, State Science Advisor Suzanne
Winters, Department of Environmental Quality's Connie
Nakahara and one of the early opponents of the storage project,
attorney James
McConkie. Additional opposition is voiced by Rep.
James Hansen, Chairman of the House Resources Committee in
Congress, and by Utah State Senator Terry
Spencer who championed several new state laws opposing Private
Fuel Storage. Video clips from the interviews with Michael Leavitt
and Terry Spencer are also available from their transcripts pages.
