Danny Quintana videoDanny Quintana
Former Tribal Counsel/Skull Valley Band

"Well, after extensive negotiations and thanks to the hysteria created by Governor Leavitt and others, the tribe got a really handsome deal from the utility companies. So I have to personally thank Governor Leavitt for the hysteria because without him, the dollar value of this project would be like any normal construction project, the dollar value would be commensurate with the market rather than the value created by the hysteria."

Member of the Skull Valley Band of Goshutes

"Within Skull Valley, the land is not ours. It never was ours. It never will be. We're caretakers of the land. We're supposed to take care of it for the next generation. And I don't see us doing that, putting a nuclear facility there."

Leon Bear videoLeon Bear
Chairman, Skull Valley Band Tribal Council

"How do you think this country was built? Not because of stupidity, same with the reservations. How do you think we've survived? Not because of stupidity. We're not going anywhere. The Goshute people are here and we're going to be here and we're not going anywhere. No matter how stupid people think we are, we're still here."

Michael Leavitt videoMichael Leavitt
Governor of Utah

"We're going to use every legislative tool, every political tool, every environmental tool, and every litigation tool that we can find to keep this high level nuclear waste out of our state. It remains hot for 10,000 years. We don't want it here. We don't want it here now. We don't want it in the future. We don't ever want it here."

Private Fuel Storage

"If this is flying in under the radar I would like to know what being out in the open is, because this is the most open licensing process I think I've ever seen. We've testified before the Utah Radiation Control Board, before the Utah Legislature about our intentions. But really this is not a project with the state of Utah. It's really a project with the Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indian tribe, which is a sovereign entity."

Terry Spencer videoSenator Terry Spencer
Utah State Legislature

"You know, my children, my great-grandchildren, if this stuff comes here will have to deal with this problem. If the stuff is as safe as Private Fuel Storage says it is, then why not keep it where it's at? Utah should not become a dumping ground for other persons' high-level waste."
