Phil Donahue
Phil Donahue and the DONAHUE show have been honored with 20 Daytime Emmy Awards, including nine for Outstanding Host and a George Foster Peabody Broadcasting Journalism Award.
Phil Donahue used the television talk show format he pioneered in 1967 to interview world leaders, celebrities, newsmakers and people from all walks of life. For over 29 years, DONAHUE examined human behavior, focused national debates on political and social issues and has provided a democratic forum for presidential candidates.
The format he introduced on November 6, 1967, as The Phil Donahue Show on WLWD-TV in Dayton, Ohio, launched the first audience participation television talk show and changed the face of American daytime television. For his outstanding contribution to television and American culture, Mr. Donahue was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame on November 20, 1993.
As host of DONAHUE, Mr. Donahue has presided over nearly 7,000 one-hour daily shows, many on-location broadcasts and several historic broadcasts from Russia.
I found Phil Donahue's comments regarding the politics of fear, and the video clips from the Senate floor, very interesting. I am ashamed that I did not join the few who heeded Senator Byrd's call to be "heard from the mountains" against George W's fear-mongering that led us into the war in Iraq.
After watching Utah NOW, I read a story on CNN's website that Sarah Palin was apparently offended that some members of the McCain campaign have openly criticized her for not knowing that Africa was a continent instead of a country, or which countries are involved in the North American Free Trade Agreement.
It's not that she is ignorant that concerns me, it is that people (including US Senators like McCain) are willing to see candidates advance to the highest positions of government simply because they are willing to use fear, instead of reason, to motivate people. Talk about scary: the politics of fear could easily advance Palin as the next version of a George W. Bush presidency.
What do we need to do to speak for reason?

I caught this interview on the radio and was completely drawn in. I was overjoyed to discover it appearing on Sunday! But, was disappointed that it wasn't the full interview that I had heard. Is there anywhere we can view the entire interview or even this edition of Utah Now online? There are a lot of people that I need to share this with.
