By the 1890s the African-American community in Salt Lake City had established its own churches to fulfill spiritual and secular needs. Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church was built in Salt Lake City, Utah in the 1890s. The church remains today at 239 East 600 South. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites in 1976.
