Yet there is still much to do to deliver on the promise of equal access, justice, and opportunity for women and girls worldwide. Women and Girls Lead is a strategic media campaign to support and sustain a growing movement to empower them, their communities, and future generations.
The Utah Women and Girls Lead project brings together media, non-profit and educational partners to challenge young women and girls to explore their greater potential in a year-long outreach and engagement project that includes:
We invite you to join us as we explore the challenges, opportunities and potential of women in Utah in our year- long dialogue and outreach campaign. Utah Women and Girls Lead.
- PBS Documentary programs, Half the Sky, Makers, Kind Hearted Women by David Sutherland and additional documentary films from POV and Independent Lens
- Documentary Short stories by aspiring young filmmakers in partnership with Spy Hop Productions.
- Essays, Poetry and stories in partnership with the Salt Lake Community College Writing Center.
- Monthly film screenings and panel discussions with the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art and the University of Utah Women's Resource Center
- Educational and curriculum resources in partnership with UEN, UWEI, UWAEP and the University of Utah Neighborhood Partners.
- A collection of stories of extraordinary women in the community for use on air, on line and in social media curated in partnership with SHEROES United.
- Photo and essay exhibit that will be installed at several venues across the state including, the Sorenson Unity Center, SL City Library, Viridian Library and during Women's Week on the University of Utah Campus in 2013.
- Local documentary production special report from KUED producer Nancy Green, Makers: Voices of Utah Women.
- Women Week Celebration on the University of Utah Campus in March of 2013.
- Support and promotion of non-profit and educational events for and by women in Utah.
- Tumbleweeds Film Festival in partnership with the Utah Film Center. Documentary films produced by the Spy Hop youth will be used in a teen discussion and screening element for the Tumbleweeds Film Festival.
- A Women & Girls Lead Booklist compiled by the Salt Lake County Library System that encourages readers to learn about strong and courageous women through literature.
