Dr. McKinlay will discuss surgical weight loss options: gastric bypass, gastric banding (also known as Lap-band ®), and a less well-known option called the duodenal switch. He will emphasize the pros and cons of each of type of surgery and talk about how the surgeries work, what results can be expected, and who might be candidates for weight loss surgery.
Dr. McKinlay, is a board-certified general surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive and gastrointestinal surgery. He is a partner at Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians (RMAP) which is one of the longest-running weight loss surgery practices in the United States. Helping patients improve their overall health and quality of life through significant weight loss is a thrilling part of his practice. Dr. McKinlay received his medical degree from the University of Utah in 1997 with honors in medicine and surgery. After surgical residency at the University of Arizona, he completed a two-year fellowship in minimally invasive—or laparoscopic—surgery at the University of Maryland in 2004. Dr. McKinlay is a member of the Salt Lake Surgical Society, Utah Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
