St. Mark’s Hospital: A Legacy of Excellence
Part of the MountainStar family of hospitals, St. Mark’s Hospital is an acute care facility with a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality, compassionate care. According to a local survey conducted by Valley Research, St. Mark’s provides the “most friendly, personalized care” among all hospitals in Salt Lake County.
St. Mark’s Women’s Pavilion provides a wide range of services to meet the female patient’s unique healthcare needs, including comprehensive, specialized care for gynecologic, breast and colorectal cancers, and lifesaving, in-utero surgeries unavailable elsewhere in the Intermountain West. The Breast Care Center offers new digital mammography, breast ultrasound and MRI, with evening and Saturday appointments available.
St. Mark’s Hospital has been recognized with a five-star rating for clinical excellence in Women’s Health Services, based on a study released recently by HealthGrades, a national, independent health ratings organization. St. Mark’s is the only hospital in metropolitan Salt Lake City to have earned this designation.
St. Mark’s is also the only hospital in Utah to achieve the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence by HealthGrades in 2007 and 2008, putting St. Mark’s among the top 5% of hospitals nationwide.
In 1872, St. Mark’s was the first and only hospital in Utah. Today, it is still first in many ways.
- First in Utah to offer the minimally invasive Mini-Maze treatment for irregular heartbeats -- Patients can resume an active lifestyle and look forward to a future without congestive heart failure or stroke. Offering comprehensive services for the heart, St. Mark’s is the only hospital along the Wasatch Front recognized most recently as a 100 Top Hospital for cardiovascular care by Thomson Healthcare.
- Leading the way in orthopedic services – The direct anterior approach to hip treatment is available, offering less pain and quicker recovery. In 2007, HealthGrades rated St. Mark’s joint replacement surgery as “Best in Utah.”
- Bariatric Center of Excellence -- St. Mark’s Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity is designated as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.
Patient education is important at St. Mark’s. “We believe that all women in every phase of their lives should have access to good health information,” says Sandy Osmond, St. Mark’s Hospital’s Director of Women’s Services. So it’s fitting that St. Mark’s will, for its eighth year, sponsor KUED’s Speaking of Women’s Health Conference. Speaking of Women’s Health 2008 will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Tickets are available at kued.org/womenshealth.
