Providing community and produce for senior citizens
Modern Gardener visited with Shawn Peterson of The Green Urban Lunch Box to learn more about their Back-Farm program.
Back-Farms uses volunteers to build, cultivate, and maintain organic gardens in disadvantaged senior citizen's backyards at no cost to the homeowner. Every garden is assigned a "Garden Apprentice," a volunteer who is responsible for the garden for the entire growing season.
Whatever produce is not used by the senior, the Garden Apprentice, or other volunteers who help in the garden, is donated to local senior centers.
