A Capitol Fourth on KUED
On July Fourth, America’s national Independence Day celebration honors our country’s birthday with an all-star salute. Broadcast live on PBS from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the longest-running live national July 4 television tradition features coverage from 20 cameras positioned around Washington, D.C., giving viewers the greatest display of fireworks in the nation.
Airing Wednesday, July 4 at 7:00 and 8:30 p.m., this year’s A Capitol Fourth concert features all-star performances by music legend Jimmy Buffet with the Broadway cast of the new musical Escape to Margaritaville. The lineup also includes The Beach Boys; three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Pentatonix; Motown stars The Temptations; country music singer-songwriter Luke Combs; country music star Lauren Alaina; gospel legend CeCe Winans; and internationally acclaimed violist Joshua Bell with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly.
The concert will pay special tribute to our men and women in uniform with soprano superstar Renée Fleming performing “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
This July 4th, A Capitol Fourth welcomes back Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos to host the festivities.
“It is a celebration, a night of music and dancing, fun and fireworks,” says Stamos. “But it is also a day to remember and reflect. To remember those patriots who 241 years ago joined together to announce the birth of a new nation, a nation that for over two centuries has been a beacon of hope and light throughout the world. And it's also a day to reflect upon what it means to be an American.”
