KUED Takes SPJ Top Documentary Award
KUED’s Homeless at the End, a powerful documentary that follows residents of Salt Lake City’s INN Between as they come to terms with the end of life, has been awarded 1st Place in the Documentary category by the Utah Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
The critically-acclaimed film, produced by Sally Shaum and Nancy Green, put a much-needed human face on the challenges faced by Utah’s homeless who find themselves confronted by mortality. The film is part of the station’s Homeless in Utah initiative, which included public screenings, panel discussions, and a second film on homeless families, A Home of Their Own
“I’m grateful Nancy and I had the opportunity to film this intimate and important story,” says Shaum. “It was quite a collaboration. We had five videographers working on this documentary. People can now see the film in cities across America.”
SPJ recognizes the free press and highlights the high-caliber journalism produced throughout the year.
