Period Drama Meets Psychological Thriller in New Film Adaptation

Press Release

Sunday, February 9, 2014 - 9:00pm
The Making Of A Lady combines the refined elements of a period drama with the dramatic tension of a thriller in a new dramatic film that airs on KUED Sunday, February 9 at 9:00 pm.

Based on the novel by celebrated writer Frances Hodgson Burnett (
The Secret Garden), this is the story of the educated but penniless Emily (Lydia Wilson).  Set in 1901, this British drama centers around poor but intelligent Emily Fox Seton, who accepts a marriage proposal from the older Lord James Walderhurst, a widower pushed into providing an heir. It is an arrangement for them both --  in James' case to stop the family home from passing to James' cousin, who is married to an Anglo-Indian wife. However, affection soon grows between Emily and James.  When he is posted to India with his regiment, the cousins come to stay with Emily, telling her James sent them to look after her.  Are they lying? What are their real plans?
