Unforgotten Comes to Masterpiece
Nicola Walker (Last Tango in Halifax) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Indian Summers) star as police officers investigating the cold case murder of a boy whose diary implicates four seemingly unconnected couples in a thriller that The Guardian (UK) hailed as “so much more than a satisfying murder mystery.” Unforgotten on Masterpiece, a six-part series, begins Sunday, April 8 at 8:00 p.m. on KUED.
In the first episode, DCI Cassie Stuart and DS Sunny Khan investigate a skeleton that is found beneath a demolished house. The discovery of a set of car keys lead the pair on a trail to identify the victim. But identifying the body only inspires more questions, as individuals implicated deny ever knowing him.
The investigation into the boy’s death continues as Cassie and Sunny visit a priest who remembers the boy fondly. When the pair discovers marks on the body consistent with known gangland torture methods, Cassie and Sunny question their leads’ involvement with a prominent East End crime family.
In subsequent episodes, Detectives Cassie and Sunny find themselves thrown into another historic murder case with the discovery of the perfectly preserved remains of a middle-aged man found in a suitcase in the silt of a London river.
As the detectives begin the complicated task of trying to identify the victim, four unconnected people go about their business – lawyer Colin Osborne, pediatric nurse Marion Kelsey, teacher Sara Mahmoud, and respected police officer Tessa Nixon – unaware they are about to be dragged into the investigation.
Sunny’s investigations into the victim’s life suggest he was a troubled man and uncovers secrets of the four people dragged into the investigation. With the suspects all having either a motive, opportunity, or connection to the victim, Cassie and Sunny are left with a massive puzzle to solve.
