Series: America's 58 National Parks
Islands: Channel Islands, California
Established in 1980, this National Park encompasses five of the eight Channel Islands in the Pacific Ocean located just off the coast of Santa Barbara. While relatively close to the main land, these islands are extremely isolated allowing them to remain virtually undeveloped. These conditions have created an ideal habitat for over 1,000 species of plants and animals found in the park, some of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
