Lakes: Isle Royale, Michigan

This National Park, located in the northwest corner of Lake Superior, is the largest island in the lake, stretching 45 miles long. Established in 1940, the island park, formed of volcanic rock, also includes approximately 400 smaller islands. The park is open from spring through fall and is only accessible by boat or float plane.
